Practice Makes Perfect?
This not my first trip to Maui. Actually, it will make a baker’s dozen.
I first visited with a college buddy in 1986. When I was an associate with Fenwick & West, it became an annual ritual, with trips to the “Firm condo” in 1992, 1993, 1994, 1995, 1996 and 1997. Since then, I’ve been in 2000, 2001, 2002, and 2004, and most recently for a partner meeting in 2007 (photos). I should be over it by now, but something keeps drawing me back.
That something consists mostly of snorkeling, delicious island cuisine, spectacular scenery, and did I mention the snorkeling? Unlike past trips where I usually traveled solo or with one other person, this year I have seven traveling companions. On this family trip, I’m the eighth wheel. I am lucky to have plenty of snorkel buddies, but I will have to relax and be flexible: it’s not all about me this time.
About a week to go, now. I should be thinking about packing, planning activities, and cleaning up the many piles of files around my desk. Better get back to work!
The adventure starts here: Settling In.
